"The earliest newspaper in this area was "The Vaquero," published by Charles F. Bailey and Geraldo A. Beeman in St. Mary's in 1868. In 1869 Bailey moved to Rockport and founded "The Transcript," which continued in operation until 1886. Two years later "The Rockport Enterprise" began, and in 1916 it merged with the new "Rockport Pilot. " Other local newspapers existed for short periods, but since its beginning "The Rockport Pilot" has been the area's source, focusing on Aransas County issues and events. (1990)"

Rising above the Aransas Bay, Fulton Mansion State Historic Site must have appeared incredible in 1877, as it does today, with its mansard roof and ornate trim. Interior gas lighting and flush-toilets were progressive for this part of Texas. Today, visitors to the restored home get a glimpse into the life of an affluent family in the late 1800s. Learn about George Fulton’s engineering skills, take a walk through Harriet Fulton’s gardens and hear the stories of living in a grand Victorian villa.

Yesterday began in the 19th century when informal groups of Rockport artists gathered to share their artistic interests. Later in the mid-20th century, artists like Simon Michael, John P. Cowan and Dalhart Windberg were painting and teaching in the area, pioneering the Texas Coast aesthetic.

Since 2006, 20 to 40 percent of the bee colonies in the United States alone have died from “colony collapse”. Now, the culprit has finally been identified as an Idrofungus interacting with a Microsporidian (virus). The exact nature of their one-two punch has not yet been clearly determined but the players are being closely studied and researchers are confident they will find a solution.
